About the Author


Mary Higgins Clark was born in the Bronx, New York on the 24th of December 1927. After completing her high school and before she became a wife, she worked as a secretary, a copy editor and an airline stewardess. She provided the family’s income by writing short stories. After her husband died in 1964, leaving her with five children, she worked for many years busy with four-minute radio scripts before turning to novels. Her debut novel “Aspire to the heavens” did not sell well. She declared to write thriller novels and in 1975 “where are the children?” was published.

The #1 New York Times best selling author Mary Higgins Clark put in writing over forty thriller novels, four collections of short stories a historical novel, an autobiography and 2 children’s books.

With best-selling writer Alafair Burke she wrote the under thriller series counting “ The Cinderella murder, All dressed in white , The sleeping beauty Killer, Every breath you take, You don’t own me, and piece of my heart”. With her daughter Carol Higgins Clark, she wrote five thriller novels. Over a hundred million copies, of her book are in print in the United States alone. Her books are internationally best selling.

While Mary Higgins Clark enjoyed spending time in Spring Lake, and in her other homes in Manhattan and on Cape Cod, she did most of her writing in her main residence in Saddle River, New Jersey, where she lived with her second husband, retired financier John Coheeney. They had nine grown-up offspring and fifteen grandchildren between them.
